From the Preacher’s Pen…
Jesus told a lot of stories, preacher stories, you might call them. Sometimes He used ridiculous, absurd stories to get people’s attention. Remember that one about a camel going through the eye of a needle? Even the disciples questioned if that one could be believed.
Other stories related to common everyday events and people, things like fishing, or planting seeds. It seems that God appreciates an illustration that has a parallel to spiritual matters and makes us think, as we sometimes say, outside the box to see the practical side of serving God.
Recently a Christian lady shared a little illustration with me and asked if I could share it with others. So, let’s consider…
Planting Your Spring Garden
For the garden of your daily living…
Plant Three Rows of Peas:
- 1) Peace of Mind
- 2) Peace of Heart
- 3) Peace of Soul
Plant Four Rows of Squash:
- 1) Squash Gossip
- 2) Squash Indifference
- 3) Squash Grumbling
- 4) Squash Selfishness
Plant Four Rows of Lettuce:
- 1) Lettuce Be Faithful
- 2) Lettuce Be Kind
- 3) Lettuce Be Patient
- 4) Lettuce Really Love One Another
No Garden is Complete without Turnips:
- 1) Turnip for Meetings
- 2) Turnip for Service
- 3) Turnip to Help One Another
To Conclude Our Garden We Must Have Thyme:
- 1) Thyme for Each Other
- 2) Thyme for Family
- 3) Thyme for Friends
Water freely with patience and cultivate with love. There is much fruit in your garden because you reap what you sow.
I think we all see the Bible points incorporated. The real question is, like every illustration used in either the Old or New Testament: Will we open our eyes and see the applications that we might live better lives for our God?
Is it time to do a little planting?
